             Have you ever walked through the meat aisle in a grocery store and wondered how all the meat was packaged and where? Modern Supermarkets stock around 47,000 products on their shelves. With many of those products being meat and poultry it’s no wonder why the top meat packaging companies control 80% of the food market today. With that much power in the food industry it’s fairly easy for them to abuse their power. They abuse their power in many-ways such as: how they feed the animals, how they raise the animals, and how they kill the animals for packaging, shipping and eventually consumption. I believe that this is a inhumane way of meat production, many people have fell ill from these sickly animals and contaminated meat. In this essay I will continue to explore and provide information about this process that is hurting our environment, people, and animals.                                 

            Only a handful of companies control the food companies. This has dramatically changed since the 1970’s when many more companies controlled the food industry and at only 25% there wasn’t much room for the corruption that is taking over the meat industry today. The biggest companies for chicken packaging are Tyson it is the biggest meat company in the world. They were able to change the way chickens were produced. Astonishingly, they were able to manipulate the process of raising chickens from 70 days to only 48 days. I know your probably thinking so what is wrong with that? Well chickens that are raised in 70 days are usually raised on a farm where they are free to run around and are fed healthy natural food that won’t make us sick if they consume it. Now the difference from a chicken that is raised in 48 days is that instead of being raised on a farm it is raised in a dark room where it never gets to see light. The chickens are so unhealthy they can hardly stand. The chickens are also packed in rooms where there are so many of them they can hardly even move around.

            In conclusion I believe that Tyson and the other food industries need to stop feeding animal’s unhealthy and unnatural foods that can cause us to be ill or even cause death. Something needs to be done! I have tried to explain as best as I could to you how these animals are being treated and raised and also on how it affects us as well as our health. We as Americans need to find stand up for what is right. We need to find away to stop Tyson and the other food industries from treating the animals this way so we can start being a healthier America by being able to eat healthier foods.
